Pallikaranai Marsh Ramsar Site: Maps, Orders & Official Resources

A reference hub for property owners, buyers, and advisors researching Chennai's only Ramsar wetland — official documents, maps, and government links, gathered in one place.

Pallikaranai Marshland was designated a Ramsar site of international importance on 8 April 2022, and since then a layered set of rules, wetland buffer zones, and CMDA/DTCP conditions, has applied to land in and around the marsh. If you own, are buying, or are valuing property in Velachery, Perungudi, Pallikaranai, Sholinganallur, Injambakkam, or the surrounding belt, it helps to see the primary source documents directly rather than relying on secondhand summaries.

This page collects the official documents and government links in one place. For a plain-English explanation of what this actually means for your property's value, see our companion guide: Ramsar Sites in Chennai and Their Impact on Property Valuation →

Why This Matters

What to Do With These Documents

These are primary sources, useful for verifying a claim, checking whether a specific parcel falls within the notified boundary or influence zone, or sharing with your bank, CA, or advocate alongside your valuation report. They are not a substitute for a physical site inspection and land-record check, which is what a registered valuer's report is for. To check your own plot on the map and see what the order means if you plan to build, sell or borrow, read Is Your Plot in the Pallikaranai Ramsar 1 km Zone? →

If you want the full picture, how Ramsar status, wetland buffer rules and the CMDA 1 km order actually affect market value, bank lending, and capital gains computation, read the complete guide: Ramsar Sites in Chennai and Their Impact on Property Valuation →
